PIA advertisement from late 1960s showing Pierre Cardin designed air-hostess uniform "In 1966, the most colorful, if not the most significant, happening took place when a new uniform for PIA air-hostesses was designed by the renowned French designer Pierre Cardin. This, more than any other singular factor, imprinted PIA's name on the international market. It took the aviation world by storm. The uniform was an instant hit, both in Pakistan and in the countries visited by PIA airliners" - PIA

In addition eveyrone's so poor I took a $70 taxi to Damascus, when I left there was a new couple trying to get someone else to go with them to some other place, because they didn't have enough money. We came there again a week later, and the same cuople was still standing there! My father gave the taxi man the money and gave the new couple 300 to start them on their new life

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, people used to drink alchahol in public, they carried bottles in busy streets too!

Yes .... we were a secular NORMAL republic till Bhutto came in 73 and wrote a new constitution and started trading with religion for political gain .... then after him Zia cam and pushed us further back ...
Karachi used to have a casino in the late 60's ... discos and bars were legal ...
people were all religious without being FORCED ...
Then came the "religion-trader" bhutto and then came the Jamatia "Zia" ...

what about Karachi? Karachi isnt what it is because of poor people! Karachi is what it is because people took money away from it and put it in their pockets! Karachi was deprived for decades!
You're gonna talk about poor people in a city, look at NY, Atlanta, LA! Those cities have poor people, but they're not dumps!

Pakistan was much advance and fun oriented before Zia ... I saw in PAF base Korangi Creek in 1984 the word "TEA" added to "BAR" in the officer's mess.
I too was once upon a time against all these Casino's and stuff .. but after looking at the reality ... you cannot invite foreigner's without giving them this activity ..
Look at Bahrain ... Look at U.A.E. ... Look at Qatar .. everybody has opened up ...
Closing will only mean more peverts ... nothing else.
If you wanna be a Mullah .. you have the right to be .. nobody is there to change you .. the same goes for people who wanna have fun .. they too have their own rights ...

LOL....However, on the honest note, the one from the 1970s looks really nice, I mean, it looks really moderate, how Islam can permit such things only proves that nowadays we have a bad society.

damn!!!!!!!! never knew PIA was actually respected at any time internationally........lol! anyways i seriously hate the way they're changing round the airline at present. it may be good financially but image-wise there's no image to display at all with 747s and 777s that frankly look like cargo planes and a service that makes u think that maybe trekking by foot all the way to pakistan wouldn't have been that bad afterall.

lebanon use to be a great country. in early mid fifty many italian moved their businesses to lebanon and built this country. in sixties people use to compare beirut with paris. beutiful bars, night clubs, restaurants, street cafe, hotels and casinos. above all the beirut university had very high ranking in the world. people use to come to beirut for sex and fun including our greatest asshole BINLADIN. than came the civil war in 1975 and destroyed the whole country. now the city is cathing up to revive its past history.

Pakistan was a lot more tolerant back in the 70's. A lot more westernized. A lot of things happened since then for the worse:
1. Bhutto nationalized everything.
2. Zia began using Islam to defend his rule
3. Afghanis refugees came into Karachi bringing their guns, drugs, and backward way of life.
4. Then we had 10 years of complete political chaos.
Hopefully things are getting better. Inshallah. We'll see.
