Besides, most of these locally produced rubbish dose not have the finish or the quality that comes from advances tool machining. So please dont be tempted. WARNING: Some people will offer you pen guns for 40 or 70 ruppees, thes can and will explode if you use them, if you are caught in posession of them and are not a member of the security forces allowe to carry such kit, you will be locked up for a long time!

You can see a picture of the pen-gun in link below.

Darra is an amazing place, probably with some outside investments they can be incorporated into arms industry for exports?

We bought our AK-47 for Rs.15,000 with 2 magazines, a really good quality cover and 'English' bullets.

That's about $70

To suggest u can pick them up for $15-$20 is pure BS

I guess this answered my question, but I think the govt still needs to work on it try to bring them into mainstream .....

Title: Pakistan tries to take over arms bazaar
The Independent (UK)
31 July 1998
By Jason Burke in Darra Adam Khel, Pakistan

Hidden in a rocky fold of the foothills below the Khyber Pass lies the
small town of Darra Adam Khel. Its name may reek of the romance of
Pakistan's north-west frontier, but the reality smells of cordite, gun
grease and sweat.

For Darra is less a town than a giant gun factory. Its bazaars are
stacked not with fruit, but with gleaming AK47s, Armalites, Berettas and
Brownings.
In a warren of dimly lit workshops, thousands of Pathan
tribesmen squat by benches making everything from James Bond-style pen
guns to rocket launchers. Among them shop owners bargain with smugglers
and arms dealers. Darra is the nearest thing in Asia to a weapons
superstore.

For decades the Pakistan government has ignored the town. It has had
little choice. The town is in tribal territory where the only effective
law is that of the Pathan chiefs.

But earlier this year government administrators decided it was time for
a change. They want Darra to make weapons under licence for big overseas
arms firms. A company in Belgium is already said to be interested.
The
politicians and bureaucrats believe it is time for Darra to become a
proper, national, foreign currency earning industry.

"Darra could provide skilled, cheap workshops for the arms
manufacturers of the world," said Sardar Mehtab Khan, chief minister of
the North West Frontier Province.

"These men can use their skills to produce legitimate, high quality
products for export such as sporting shotguns or handguns for police
forces. There would be investment in the town and dollars for the
national exchequer. Everybody wins," Mr Khan said.

Unfortunately the men of Darra do not think they are going to win
anything at all. They view the scheme as unwelcome government meddling.
In the town yesterday the mood was grim.

"They have to be joking," said one gun dealer, shouting to make himself
heard over the crash of new Kalashnikovs (priced at £50) being tested in
the street outside.

"The whole point is that we look after ourselves and don't answer to
some fat bureaucrat or policeman.
If the government takes over then a
few big people far away will make a lot of money and the rest of us will
be left with nothing."

Another dealer spat into the dirt when told that high-ranking officers
from the Pakistan army ordnance factory were planning to tour the
workshops to give advice to the craftsmen on how to bring their products
up to international standards.

"The government just wanted to get its hands on the our money," he
said. "When we want roads and clean water they are nowhere to be seen.
When they want to make money out of us they suddenly appear. Well they
can turn round and go back where they came from."

Pakistan's Wild West
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 9.30.2001 | MIKE WILLIAMS

Darra Adam Khel, Pakistan -- Gunfire rips the morning air in this otherwise quiet village about 40 miles from the Afghanistan border, but nobody ducks or runs. Nobody believes an invasion is under way.

Sporadic bursts from machine guns, pistols and rifles are a way of life in Darra Adam Khel, which has earned a reputation as the armory of Pakistan's rugged northwest frontier.

"We have 2,300 gun shops, and about 12,000 people working in the weapons industry," said Munawar Hassan, a journalist and community leader. "It is an open business here, just like a flower shop in Peshawar."

Any invading army, including our own:(.

I think it is best left how it is, supplying weapons to those who fight our enemies...

No need to make a enemy out of someone who is not a friend.

We ain't America.

For equipment like machineguns and assualt rifles (no), for pistols and revolvers(yes), why?

Pistols/revolvers or even hunting guns do not have to survive the extreme pressure of gas created by automatic fire, nor are the barrels designed to sustain extreme heat and their parts are not designed to function for prolonged periods of sustained fire.

To get good quality parts you need machines like CAD, CAM and other associated tool machines to help create precision parts that just are not possible given the complexity and the inadequate hand tools.

Although hand made rifles are great, infact James Perty Shotguns part of the royal collection at Clarence House are valued at (£80,000) while an 1851 hunting gun could set you back (£ 110,000) -Sotheby’s of London, both these weapons are hand made, a hand made armanius (357) revolver could set you back $11,000 and the list goes on!

But for high performance material manufacture you need machine tooling! ;)

I can't believe u guys actually made fun of someone with such facial features. It is a sad sight, yet most of u laugh at it. Imagine if u had a face like that.
