This Mosque since it started construction in 1996 underwent many many redesigns and ended up costing 10 times the original price. Tourists are allowed in with tour guides and also get the chance to learn more about islam and islamic architecture :)

Ill leave you with these amazing pictures taken by Osama, who happens to be an enviromental engineer with a very good eye !

more can be found at the link posted at the top :) man o man isnt it magnificent :slob:

Can a masjid be too beautiful? I mean seriously... As a piece of architecture this is way beyond jaw dropping beautiful.. but I thought mosques weren't suppose to be that ornamented...

its truely breaths taking! I have a powerpoint presentation on my desktop with more pics..I dont know how to upload that...
Mosques may not be that ornamental, but lets put it this way: a mosque should be on par with the average building structures on the area....UAE has a construction boom..crazw would be a better word...so this Mosque is completely justified....in my opinion.

^^ Rightly said brother, this masjid is just stunningly beautiful!!!

Indeed the suicide bombers will disappear if Musharraf goes, electricity will be restored, oil prices will come down, politicians will become honest and judges will become professional, the Taliban will simply become an NGO.

Subhanallah!

1) Make a folder or use any existing folder--just use select, copy paste technique to copy those images from those power point to that particular folder.
2)after copying image into the folder you can now upload to pdf using "insert image" icon in pdf's post area.

Its basically just a tourist attraction.... nothing more!

Ive lived in the UAE for a year... there are mosques there that are just built as tourist attractions & are closed for any prayers...

Now I hear... there is a new law about to passed in the UAE to stop giving the Azaan over the speakers in certain neighbourhoods where Foreigners live (i.e. Goora Farangees)... because they have been complaining that the Azaan is disturbing their peace (i.e. noise pollution)!! Imagine if a Muslim even hinted athaving the Church bells silenced in a Christian country... there would be hell...

I have nothing against modernity &/or moral capitalism or development... BUT when that change comes as a result of selling your soul, or loosing your culture, or whoring your morals away... THEN I have no respect for that society!....... UAE is a fine example of that... Its just a gutter Whore house of the Middle East, Nothing More... No matter how fancy your whore house is, or how much bling-bling you have...

Their money could be better spent on building a proper civil society, education, industries, & human development...

Beautiful Mosque though... Congrats to all the hard working Pakistani/Begali/Indian people who's hard work made this possible! -

Can you give any examples of any such mosque??? I have also been there.. the people ere friendly and humble.
Can you post any link for the "romour" about banning azan???
atleast they are developing their country, and building stuff...contrary to our people who are always bent on destroying our own country..I feel happy for them. also, the construction works whom you feel pity for, are not forced to work there..they choose for themselves...Provide them better opportunities in their own countries,a nd then watch them put their heart and sould iin buildiing our countries...
As for the culture part, they are only enhancing their culture...look at all the high rises, malls and hotels...they are all built with traditional arabic and Islamic architectural elements...It is because of them that the entire region is catching up with positive developments...Now compare this with our Pakistan...Not a single mosque that we can marvel on, since Badshahi Masjid, build by emperor Aurengzeb, and Faisal Mosque gifted by Saudiarabia...

There are already enough hatred and accusations out there against Muslims, and within Muslims...We should learn to apprecisate some good things too

I am here at UAE right now for a project and I haven't come across any "only for tourists" masjids or localities were Azan is banned( and yes, I have lived in Barsha area in dubai which is full of goras).

There are localities without masajid in Dubai, in the newer projects. You would feel you are in some Polish city, no Muslim representation whatsoever, plenty of chavs though .

I think Clutch got confused with the issue, actually all the Moazens of Mosques were terminated something like 2 or 3 years back & now all Azams are sent through voice recorded Azan. Hence, it means all over the city Azan are given only 1 time .. I do not know the authenticity of the claims of Goora's complaining .. which they surely did .. but it was an act by Auqaf dept. wherein several hundreds of Moazens were terminated. I met a few who were looking for a job.

As regards Shaikh Zayed Grands Mosque, it is an extremely beautiful peace of architecture but built by Italian Impregillo company. Although I don't mind such engineering done by foreigners however, I am against installing raw material like Italian marble, etc. in Muslim mosques as such type or similar type of marble material is present in Muslim world and all Muslim countries should refrain from such actions.

The Mosque itself has a legacy of construction problems with PWD (Public Works Dept) shooting itself in the foot by non-payment to contractors & thus going into International Court of Arbitration and getting something like couple of years & lots of claims against the variations & delay by the Client.

Again the Mosque is something to look forward to and in the end the finishing touches are being done by Six Construct.

Its surprising how things in Abu Dhabi are completed either on record time, e.g. Emirates Palace Hotel, F1 Track on Yas Island, or in snail pace taking 10+ years, e.g. Shaikh Zayed Mosque, Zayed Bridge, Lulu Island..!

It is very sad...because previously in Qatar, Goras lived in the same compounds as Pakistanis and Egyptians - when they left (at the time Qatar was nothing), they turned out to be the very progressive and moderate folk in the West. I mean those who never had issues with a girl wearing a hijab in class, those who loved to talk to guys doing wudu in a public bathroom, etc, all had lived in mixed and diverse environments in the Middle East. This separation will just make the goras even more ignorant and resentful IMO.

I remember a time in my private school in Qatar - Grade-1 - the teachers would sit down with us for like a good half-hour a day trying to learn Urdu (there were a lot of Pakistani kids in the school). I remember in kindergarten me blabbering away in Urdu to our Scottish teacher - while she just sat there smiling and nodding - then I switched to clear English...from then on I was her favourite student. She even made a note on my report card that I have clear and remarkably coherent writing & speaking skills...

Part of the reason for this is that previously you had broad-minded westerners, those who were willing to learn a new culture coming to the Gulf. Nowadays a substantial portion of Brits coming are chavs, university dropouts and yobs who have no idea of the difference between Dubai and Malaga.

A number of Brits in Dubai nowadays are ironically, passive supporters of the BNP.

They love it because they can yell bloody p*** without getting beaten up. They complain how the UK has been "taken over" by the Asians, and they feel the Gulf and Thailand are great places where one can be politically incorrect to a great extent.

The police are likely to favor the mighty "white" over the asian in most cases.
