CARPINTERIA, CALIF. - The corporate parent of the Hardee's hamburger chain signed franchise deals to open 25 restaurants in Pakistan.

Under the agreements with CKE Restaurants, the California owner of Hardee's, MDS Foods will open 15 restaurants in Lahore over the next five years, and Global Food will open 10 Hardee's in Karachi over the next four years. There are now 184 Hardee's in nine Middle Eastern countries.

The fast-food chain was founded in Greenville, N.C., in 1960. In 2001, CKE moved its headquarters out of Rocky Mount, but Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee's franchisee, is still based there.

When the world is realising that fast foods have made whole generations of people obese and ill I am absolutely amazed that there is a free flow of these companies in Pakistan.

Haha, obese people are generally much less fitter than "skinny people". Thats why you will hardly find a fast food eating fat person in PA .....

I agree. We need young Pakistani entrepreneurs to be creative and invent their own brands and franchises. I've learnt that chic coffee shops are popping all over the country. If Pakistani's can succeed in bringing out their own products and brands in the UK/US why not in Pakistan? We need to be aware of the dangers of Americanizing Pakistan. India should be an eye-opener.

Speed always triumphs over weight with age. Many youngsters think that becoming bigger is the answer because when they're 15 or 17, they're still learning. So they feel frustrated when their punch doesn't do so much damage. But 10 or 12 years later when they have put on a few kgs and are still thin, their new weight provides optimal balance of speed and power. This is due to their skills honed while the extra mass adds power without being a hindrance to speed. The curve is something like this. What's the dot on the graph? In case someone was thinking about a fatguy who is fast...it's possible but improbable. Hence the dot value resides outside the curve's bounds.

THe investment itself isn't a bad thing. THey provide employment and a service to Pakistan. But the problem is that the food can be very unhealthy if consumed and not burned off. THe sad thing is that not a single Pakistani chain has the capability to reach global popularity.

good news, investment in Pakistan.

I really like their mushroom swiss burgers!

Fast-food kids’ meals heavy on calories

Wednesday, August 06, 2008
WASHINGTON: Kids’ meals at popular fast-food restaurants deliver more than a quick lunch or dinner— 90 per cent of them have far more than a meal’s worth of calories and many are loaded with fat and salt too, according to a report released late on Monday.

The Centre for Science in the Public Interest — the group that took the fun out of movie popcorn and Chinese takeout by revealing the fat and calorie content of such treats — said it is difficult to find anything remotely healthful for a child to eat at several restaurant chains.

“Nearly every single possible combination of the children’s meals at KFC, Taco Bell, Sonic, Jack in the Box and Chick-fil-Ais too high in calories,” the group said in a statement. CSPI examined the menus at 13 popular restaurants that promote children’s meals.

“Ninety-three per cent of 1,474 possible choices at the 13 chains exceed 430 calories — an amount that is one-third of what the Institute of Medicine recommends that children aged four through eight should consume in a day,” the group said.

Children often get more than two meals’ worth of energy in a single visit to Brinker International’s Chili’s restaurants.
